Chamomile

Hello!

Not sure if anyone remembers this?

Chamomile seedlings in seed trays

I posted this picture in this post about growing seedlings indoor for planting. This is a picture of my chamomile plants that I grew from seeds. The seed packet that I had with me doesn't say if is is German or Roman Chamomile. I planted about 3-4 seeds per cell in the seed tray above and when they were about 2 inches tall transplanted it into a flowering pot on my patio.

About 6 weeks later the plants are growing nicely. The leaves has a nice fern like appearance to it which I like.

The flowers are harvested, dried and stored in a glass container to be used to make chamomile tea later.

When you dry the Chamomile flowers they look like this. The flowers are harvested the day after they bloom fully and then dried in the sun until it starts crumbling.

The flowers are then stored in an airtight container for future use. Add a teaspoon in hot water and let it stand for couple of minutes for the tea to brew and reach the optimum taste.

I did not have a lot this year as I planted only a few plants this year from the seed packet that I bought from home depot several years ago for about $1.05. I have left several flowers on the plant so I can collect the seeds for planting next year.
