Romper to cute top- children's refashion
My daughter has this cute one piece romper when she was about one year old from Burt Bees. Now that she is almost eighteen months this doesn't fit her anymore. I really like the large pink and yellow dragonfly print in the ivory background and started thinking how I can use this to refashion something for her to wear this summer.
I made the cuts at the sleeves and the bottom to remove the legs. If you look at the below picture you can see that I made the cut as close to the crotch as possible to give the top as much length as possible.
Final product after sewing the armholes and hem down. Since the fabric doesn't fray I only turned it once before I started sewing the hem down with a zigzag stitch. Same goes for the armholes.
After stitching and pressing it we are done. This top should go perfectly with jeans shorts for my toddler.
I really love this new top!
First - the cuts
In the below picture you can see where I made the cuts at. Also there was an elastic gather at the chest area which I removed to give it more room. I would later stitch a pink ruffle piece here later that I seam ripped from the back bum area.I made the cuts at the sleeves and the bottom to remove the legs. Now time to start sewing.
The pink ruffles are sewed to the front where there was an elastic gathering. This gave the top more width. I forgot to take a picture of it but the pink ruffles were actually sewn on the butt of the pajamas like so many other baby clothes. I removed it from the back and added it to the front.Final product after sewing the armholes and hem down.
